Since starting my essential oil journey about a year ago, I’ve experimented with different recipes to make DIY cleaning products for use around the house. One of my favorites is this laundry detergent recipe that allows you to use whichever essential oils you prefer.
Since I love the crisp, fresh aroma of citrus, I went with bergamot, lemon, wild orange, and purify essential oils. Purify is DöTerra’s ‘cleansing blend’ that contains citrus and pine oils that give off a nice uplifting and airy scent. All together, these oils combine to make a delightful laundry blend.
Here is what you need to make this homemade laundry detergent:
+1 C. Borax
+1 C. Washing Soda
+1 Bar of Ivory soap
+10-12 drops essential oils (pick your favorites)
+ Cheese Grater
+ Mixing Bowl
+ Container for Detergent
Directions:
Add the Borax and washing soda together in a mixing bowl. Grate Ivory soap bar into the bowl. Add 10-12 drops of varying essential oils of your choice and mix well.

Not only does this homemade laundry detergent get your clothes clean and smelling wonderful, but it’s cost effective, too! This detergent is as low as $0.05 per load. You can’t beat it.

Where did you find the washing soda and borax? I attempted to make a similar recipe last year and had the hardest time finding them in bulk!
