This weekend is the first weekend in months that Steve and I have had off with no travel plans, no work, no nothing. Just a full weekend of nothing but Nashville. It has been amazing so far. Since I just wrapped up launch week with my SPS team, we were given a half day Friday, which was the perfect way to jumpstart the weekend. It feels so good to have some time to kick back and relax.

Additionally, we went to see Minus The Bear play Live on the Green Thursday evening, so that was awesome, too. Gotta love a free music festival with some of your favorite bands. Plus they played early in the night so we stopped at Greko for Greek street food afterwards and then to Dee’s for a couple beers before calling it a night.

After tossing around a few different brunch ideas this morning, we settled on Fido after just driving around the city. It feels so much better to not have an agenda and just do things on a whim based on how I’m feeling. I feel like that’s how I live day to day. Planning things too much only allows for me to get stressed and anxious, so it’s easier to go with the flow. I’ve realized that Nashville will always have new restaurants opening and new things to see and do, and if I try too hard to see or do too many things in a short time, I end up not enjoying it. Anyone else get that way?

After brunch we came home so we could get some things done around the house. It was so nice to just slow down and enjoy time at home together for a change. We then decided to grab dinner at the newly opened Fort Louise in Riverside Village. I’ll share more about our date night at a different time, because you’re all going to want to hear about how delicious the food was. It was the perfect date night spot. I sure do miss living really close to Riverside Village and all of the cute places that are popping up over there.

relaxedI love the relaxed look and feel of these linen high-waisted pants that I picked up from Vinnie Louise last month. They’re super soft, stretchy, and go with so many different things. They’re also the perfect addition to my comfy work-from-home wardrobe, where I wear only things with a stretchy waistband and breathable fabric. Haha. Gotta let that gut breathe while I’m sitting at a computer desk all day.

Lately my favorite go-to causal outfits consist of blue jeans and bodysuits. I mention time and time again about my lazy girl style because I work from home, but that’s because it can be tough to get dressed up after being cooped up in the house all day. That’s why I love to throw on a fitted bodysuit with some fun detail and wear some denim and sneakers for when I’m going out in public. It makes things easy for a quick jaunt to a coffeeshop or a lunch date on the weekends. When I don’t want to fuss, this style works best.

blue jeans and bodysuitsblue jeans and bodysuitsI went through my closet and dresser the other day to start compiling some more items to give to Goodwill and realize how much of my wardrobe is grey. Especially t-shirts. I own so many basic, grey tees that it’s getting ridiculous. It’s like once I hit age 30 I figured out what I really like and just bought 10x more of it. Simplicity for the win. ::shrug::

When the days aren’t incredibly hot and humid, one of my favorite things to do is stroll around East Nashville neighborhoods, window shop, grab coffee, and enjoy the beautiful weather. The sunny-yet-bearable-and-less-humid days are few and far between lately, so when we get a perfectly balanced weather day, there’s nothing better.

Steve and I try to take full advantage of those days by working in the yard or planting things in our garden. I’m getting really excited to see our hard work produce some vegetables and herbs, as long as the deer and rabbits don’t get to them first. We’ve been seeing a ton of wildlife in our yard the past few weeks, so I think it’s going to be a bit of a challenge keeping our plants alive and well. I guess only time will tell.

summer casualsummer casualNothing new and too exciting has been happening over here. Just a lot of work. Steve and I have both been putting in crazy amounts of work over the past couple of weeks. At my job, we’re in the middle of a big launch– so I’m putting in those extra hours to help with customer support (on top of developing a brand new product that I think new self-publishers are going to LOVE, which is exciting) and Steve has been waking up super early and getting home after dinner to tech some pretty big shows. All of the working hours help us appreciate the time we finally do get off together, though.

Last night was the 1 year anniversary party for Jeff Ruby’s steakhouse downtown. I was invited by my favorite ladies at Reed PR so I brought Steve with me to make an appearance and celebrate the past year of success, delicious food, tasty cocktails, and the best damn desserts I’ve ever had at this luxurious steakhouse. You can learn more about Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse in this old blog post.

The party included live music, hors d’oeuvres, a sushi bar, tiny chocolate desserts, a signature whiskey cocktail, and a cake that looked like a giant t-bone steak and cigar box. It was amazing. If you haven’t already visited this Nashville restaurant, you need to plan ahead for your next event, anniversary, birthday, or just for a night to treat yourself. They have, by far, some of the best food I’ve ever tasted in my life.

The sushi bar was incredible. The last time I visited Jeff Ruby’s they served a sushi roll wrapped in thin-sliced, pan seared steak and I talked about it for weeks after. I also can’t sing enough praises about the pastry chef on staff here because not only are they decadent and delightful, but they’re the most beautifully decorated desserts I’ve seen. I didn’t get any pictures of them last night, so you’ll just go see for yourself.

jeff ruby'sAfter the event, Steve and I strolled around downtown near 4th Avenue to enjoy the remaining daylight of one of the most beautiful days we’ve had in Nashville. It was finally not too hot to stand outside for more then a few minutes.

It’s the perfect mix of professional, trendy, and practical. It even snaps all the way down and the fit is great. I love a good belted dress.

Happy Friday, friends! I hope you all have a fun-filled weekend ahead.

I feel like I’m getting my groove back after being in somewhat of an exhausted slump since I returned from Mexico last month. This past week has been more productive than the entire month of July so far and it feels good to have my energy return. Now if I can just get myself to finish up our garden out back, I’ll feel more accomplished. I knew yard work was going to take a lot of elbow grease and motivation at this house, but man, it takes some serious dedication to stay on top of it. Kudos to all you homeowners that spend hours on end in the yard making sure everything is neat. I can barely keep my green bean sprouts alive and those are the easiest things to grow. I’ve got a long road ahead of me, haha!

A couple nights ago, Steve and I decided to go on a last minute dinner date to our favorite taco spot, Bartaco after picking up his car with newly replaced tires. We weren’t ready to go back home (where I spend all day every day working) so I offered up the idea of grabbing a late dinner. I say this every time we randomly go out during the week, but it never fails to amaze me how good it feels to break up the week with a mid-week date and a cocktail.

airyairyI wore this delicate, lacy white top with my favorite loose-fitting and flowy palazzo pants. The heat has been insane in Nashville this week, so I wanted something light and airy that wouldn’t make me feel even sweatier. The older I get, the more I appreciate a good pair of loose-fitted, comfortable pants. Especially since I no longer work in an office.

So happy that it’s Friday! Tonight I’m grabbing drinks with friends, tomorrow we’re going to the Elliston Place Street Fest, and Sunday I’m going to do some gardening. Hold me accountable. 😉 Have a great weekend!
