It has been sweater weather for a while in Nashville and I can honestly say I’ve never loved living in sweaters more than I do this year. Maybe that’s because in the south the bitter cold still isn’t nearly as bad as it was in Michigan, but it’s also just comfortable to step outside wearing a sweater. It feels like more like ‘cozy’ weather than it is ‘freezing.’ I’m still looking forward to Spring already though.

A few nights ago, Steve and I finally ventured over Cornelia Fort Airpark at Shelby Bottoms Greenway. The airpark was a privately owned airport that operated from 1944-2011. It was named after Cornelia Fort, the first female pilot in American history to die on active duty. The runway and airpark was built on her family’s farm.  I loved learning more about Cornelia and how she became an American hero and pioneer right on this land. airpark airpark airpark
I love discovering all of the historical gems around Nashville. It’s so much fun to learn about things that are in our own neighborhood. For instance, we learned so much more about the history of our house from some of our neighbors at a recent neighborhood holiday party. There’s so much history in our own home and I love knowing that it was so well-loved before we purchased it.airpark

HAPPY NEW YEAR, FRIENDS! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful start to 2018.
I recently found my perfect crossback jumpsuit at my favorite local East Nashville boutique and to say I’m in love is an understatement. I picked up this showstopper at Vinnie Louise a couple weeks ago and immediately snatched it off the rack when I felt how soft and buttery the material was. This was before I even realized the amazing crossback tie detail on the backside of it. I knew I had to have it instantly. crossback jumpsuitcrossback jumpsuit
I ended up wearing this crossback jumpsuit on Christmas to my family party. Although it was in Michigan and it was frigid outside, I still liked the way it looked with a chunky cardigan over it. When I wore it out on a coffee date to Three Brothers Coffee with Steve over the weekend, I paired it with this cozy faux fur vest and my favorite fossil watch.

I’m so looking forward to hitting the proverbial reset button that is the New Year and gaining some fresh perspective. I really need to reset my mind and refocus on what’s most important. I’m going to work on getting into a more productive morning routine that will consist of meditation and daily planning. I also want to be more balanced overall. Travel more, get better quality sleep, launch new projects, spend more time with good friends, etc. There’s a lot of good things in store for 2018.

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas!! Popping in here real quick to share my holiday outfit. This comfortable, festive look is perfect for New Year’s Eve. I’ll probably be repeating this outfit for the occasion since I can’t bear to wear a short or sleeveless dress in the winter. There’s also something so cozy about wearing stretchy velvet and a flowy midi skirt.

I still can’t believe Christmas is over already. It feels like summer was just ending yesterday. I’m looking forward to a fresh start though, and New Year’s Day is always the best reset button. I want to be more productive in 2018 and become better at planning ahead. I want to have better personal accountability and watch more projects come to fruition. I’m so excited for what the next few months will bring because I’m definitely stepping a bit outside my comfort zone to pursue some new things.holiday outfit holiday outfit holiday outfit holiday outfit

Well, dang! I guess you could say I had my own little winter break there for a minute. I took a partially intentional/partially unintentional month-long break. I was planning to take about a week or so off from blogging so that I could be with my family in Michigan after my grandfather passed away, but it turned into a longer hiatus when I realized I had to re-prioritize some things in my life. The end of the year can be so crazy and I think it’s so important to head into a new year and a new season with clarity and some fresh perspective, so I’d say the break was more than necessary for me.

Speaking of the year coming to an end… when did that happen?! I can’t believe it’s mid-December. I’m afraid to blink. Although the sun setting slightly after 4pm has been a huge downer, I am happy to spend more time at home with a cup of hot chocolate and a good Netflix show. I think some quiet, cozy time is good for my mental health.

These photos were taken a couple weeks ago when Steve and I paid our first visit to Mockingbird. We had been hearing so many rave reviews about it since it opened that had to grab some brunch there when we had a day off together. Ya’ll.. it was so good. Everything from the food to the service to the decor. It’s one of the most beautifully decorated restaurants in town, in my opinion.

I’m going to get cracking on my 2018 bucket list because I’d really like to make some big accomplishments in the new year. 2017 was huge in so many ways and I want to continue to raise the bar.

Strapping myself in for an exciting 2018. What’s your biggest bucket list item for the new year?!

I love staple accessories. I’m not much of a jewelry and handbag buyer, so when I find pieces that I can wear with anything and that are wearable year-round, I’m all in. Especially during the holiday season when there seems to suddenly be more events, dinner parties, and family gatherings. It’s nice to find accessories (especially jewelry) that is both tasteful and timeless.

fossil bag This Fossil handbag is my new favorite accessory. As an adult, I’ve ditched the giant totes and have been sticking to small to mid-sized cross-bodies that don’t take up too much space or are heavy enough to give me back and shoulder problems. My thoughts on smaller bags: you’ll learn to only carry what is absolutely essential. I don’t need to carry an extra hairbrush, some mouthwash, 9 shades of lipstick, a laptop, and enough snacks to survive an apocalypse. A small bag is good enough for me.  fossil bag fossil bag On Black Friday, Fossil is offering 30% off site-wide!
