It’s been a minute.

I think I’m going to do a full blog post soon about mindfulness and eliminating distractions because I’ve learned quite a bit from making some small changes this past week. But for now, I’m going to share some shots from the other night when the sky was golden and I finally got to spend some time outside in the fresh air. I love the way the setting sun makes everything in the city glow.

glowEver just feel like you can’t keep up with anything that life is throwing at you? That’s been me the past couple of weeks. I feel like I’m treading water and wearing myself out just so I can keep my nose above water. I’m in this constant cycle of working overtime in order to feel less stressed and then feeling more stressed because all I think about is work. I need my mind to just quiet down long enough for me to get some sleep, which is also a rarity lately. I don’t remember the last time I felt this un-rested.

glowglowI know it’s only Tuesday, but I’m already looking forward to this weekend because it’s going to be one of no plans. Steve will be heading up to Illinois to play a show on Saturday so I’m genuinely looking forward to having some quiet ‘Laura time.’ I think it’ll do me good to have some time alone to let myself relax. I’m going to hit reset and let myself completely recharge before we head to Denver next week, which I’m SUPER excited for and I think it’s coming at the perfect time. Steve and I are heading there together to go visit my cousin Katelyn and her husband Alex. They’re both our cousins and some of our very best friends. We’re going to see NEEDTOBREATHE play at Red Rocks (Katelyn and I went together last year), and then we’re going to spend some time in other parts of Colorado exploring and spending quality time together.

About my outfit: I recently bought these pinstriped skinnies from Target’s Who What Wear collection and they’ve quickly become my favorite pair of pants that I’ve probably ever owned. They are so versatile and comfortable. With an elastic waistband and stretchy material, they’re easy to wear with almost anything. You can dress them up with a blouse and heels or just wear them with a t-shirt and sneakers. This is exactly my kind of item.

I officially have a new favorite restaurant in town. Greko Greek Street Food in East Nashville is hands-down some of tastiest food I’ve had and I’ve already been 3 times in 3 weeks. It wasn’t until I started dating Steve that I discovered my love for Mediterranean/Greek food. His family makes some of the best Greek food I’ve ever tasted, so it’s hard to find places that can compare. When we heard a Greek place was opening up near us, we knew we had to try it. And it delivered. It’s so good!

My favorite thing on Greko’s menu is the beef souvlaki pita with a side of pita and tzatziki. Their tzatziki has the freshest cucumber flavor ever. You seriously have to try it.

After dinner we went downtown to catch week #3 of Live on the Green to see Portugal the Man. I was pumped to see them play live and have been waiting for so long to see them. As much as I love LOTG and attending outdoor music festivals, I hope to someday see them in a more intimate setting where I don’t have to be trampled by thousands of people who could care less about the band playing. That’s the tough thing about free concerts, I suppose. Regardless of the insane crowds, we had a great time and they played an incredible setlist!

I hope you all have a great weekend! I plan on relaxing to the max from now until Sunday night. 🙂

This weekend is the first weekend in months that Steve and I have had off with no travel plans, no work, no nothing. Just a full weekend of nothing but Nashville. It has been amazing so far. Since I just wrapped up launch week with my SPS team, we were given a half day Friday, which was the perfect way to jumpstart the weekend. It feels so good to have some time to kick back and relax.

Additionally, we went to see Minus The Bear play Live on the Green Thursday evening, so that was awesome, too. Gotta love a free music festival with some of your favorite bands. Plus they played early in the night so we stopped at Greko for Greek street food afterwards and then to Dee’s for a couple beers before calling it a night.

After tossing around a few different brunch ideas this morning, we settled on Fido after just driving around the city. It feels so much better to not have an agenda and just do things on a whim based on how I’m feeling. I feel like that’s how I live day to day. Planning things too much only allows for me to get stressed and anxious, so it’s easier to go with the flow. I’ve realized that Nashville will always have new restaurants opening and new things to see and do, and if I try too hard to see or do too many things in a short time, I end up not enjoying it. Anyone else get that way?

After brunch we came home so we could get some things done around the house. It was so nice to just slow down and enjoy time at home together for a change. We then decided to grab dinner at the newly opened Fort Louise in Riverside Village. I’ll share more about our date night at a different time, because you’re all going to want to hear about how delicious the food was. It was the perfect date night spot. I sure do miss living really close to Riverside Village and all of the cute places that are popping up over there.

relaxedI love the relaxed look and feel of these linen high-waisted pants that I picked up from Vinnie Louise last month. They’re super soft, stretchy, and go with so many different things. They’re also the perfect addition to my comfy work-from-home wardrobe, where I wear only things with a stretchy waistband and breathable fabric. Haha. Gotta let that gut breathe while I’m sitting at a computer desk all day.

Lately my favorite go-to causal outfits consist of blue jeans and bodysuits. I mention time and time again about my lazy girl style because I work from home, but that’s because it can be tough to get dressed up after being cooped up in the house all day. That’s why I love to throw on a fitted bodysuit with some fun detail and wear some denim and sneakers for when I’m going out in public. It makes things easy for a quick jaunt to a coffeeshop or a lunch date on the weekends. When I don’t want to fuss, this style works best.

blue jeans and bodysuitsblue jeans and bodysuitsI went through my closet and dresser the other day to start compiling some more items to give to Goodwill and realize how much of my wardrobe is grey. Especially t-shirts. I own so many basic, grey tees that it’s getting ridiculous. It’s like once I hit age 30 I figured out what I really like and just bought 10x more of it. Simplicity for the win. ::shrug::

When the days aren’t incredibly hot and humid, one of my favorite things to do is stroll around East Nashville neighborhoods, window shop, grab coffee, and enjoy the beautiful weather. The sunny-yet-bearable-and-less-humid days are few and far between lately, so when we get a perfectly balanced weather day, there’s nothing better.

Steve and I try to take full advantage of those days by working in the yard or planting things in our garden. I’m getting really excited to see our hard work produce some vegetables and herbs, as long as the deer and rabbits don’t get to them first. We’ve been seeing a ton of wildlife in our yard the past few weeks, so I think it’s going to be a bit of a challenge keeping our plants alive and well. I guess only time will tell.

summer casualsummer casualNothing new and too exciting has been happening over here. Just a lot of work. Steve and I have both been putting in crazy amounts of work over the past couple of weeks. At my job, we’re in the middle of a big launch– so I’m putting in those extra hours to help with customer support (on top of developing a brand new product that I think new self-publishers are going to LOVE, which is exciting) and Steve has been waking up super early and getting home after dinner to tech some pretty big shows. All of the working hours help us appreciate the time we finally do get off together, though.
