Remember a few months ago when I posted about Morton Salt’s Next Door Chef event that took place in a beautiful backyard setting? Well, I finally get to share more about that amazing evening!

On Monday, March 20th, the video from my meal at Morton Salt’s Next Door Chef: Nashville event officially went live. As you may remember, I shared a few details about the delicious meal I enjoyed by a local Nashville resident, Travis Nunn. As a part of the Next Door Chef campaign, Travis was coached by an acclaimed local chef, Karl Worley from Biscuit Love, to learn how to prepare an incredible meal using the right types of salt. Travis’s home was transformed into a beautifully decorated pop-up restaurant, “Indie’s Kitchen,” and we were served an amazing meal right in his backyard.

Before our meal began, we learned from Travis that as a full-time, traveling musician, husband, and father, he hasn’t had much experience in the kitchen. He loves his wife’s cooking and as a way to impress her, he wanted to master the art of cooking and understanding how the right salt can make or break a recipe.

To learn how he could step up his cooking game through the proper use of salts, Morton paired Travis with Karl Worley of Biscuit Love (who doesn’t love Biscuit Love?!). Together, they created a menu Travis could easily prepare as Morton Salt transformed his home into a fully decorated pop-up backyard restaurant named “Indie’s Kitchen,”—after Travis’s daughter—where they served an amazing meal that I still daydream about today.

When I first arrived at the popup restaurant at Travis’s home, I was greeted with Lemon Spring Tea with Morton Kosher Salt to mellow out the bold, tart flavor from the natural lemon, giving the garnish a burst of fresh, sweet flavor.

Once we all took our seats, our meal officially began. It started with pimento cheese and crackers covered in course sea salt. Many of us bloggers got to know each other over glasses of wine while gushing over how much we loved the food. We were then served several dishes to follow: salt roasted beet salad, chicken country captain and curry powder, cheese grits, and last but definitely not least, biscuit strawberry shortcake.

I not only had one of the best meals I’ve ever tasted, but I met some really incredible individuals that evening while being serenaded by the one and only Heather Morgan. It was a Nashville evening to remember and I’m so grateful I got to be a part of such a beautiful event that represented our city so well.

This was the second of three Next Door Chef events. Morton Salt has shared that they will be releasing video and recipes from their third Next Door Chef, in New Orleans, this summer. The first Next Door Chef event that was held in Chicago.

At Next Door Chef, I learned all about the benefits of using Morton Kosher and Sea Salt, versus the standard table salt when cooking your favorite dishes. I’ve already learned so many new ways to implement the right kind of salt into recipes I’m making and it has really turned things around.
